Letter from the Director-November

Sorry I’m so late but it has been a very busy November so far.  We are gearing up for our busiest time of the year.

Thanksgiving meals are well underway.  Muskego Lions club has adopted 17 of our families for Thanksgiving.  St. Leonard’s Catholic Church is helping another 16 families.  We have provided 50 turkeys so far and are expecting to give out another 20 to 30 before Thanksgiving.  A big thanks to everyone who has helped to make this a special Thanksgiving for all.

Please keep us in mind while you are doing your holiday grocery shopping.  Every little bit helps to keep our families from experiencing hunger during this holiday season.

We wouldn’t be able to help so many without the help of our community groups, churches and citizens.

Thanks for your generosity.

Sorry I’m so late.  This month has gotten away from me.  School is back in session and we need to keep the kids and their school lunch needs in mind.  Try and pick up a jar of peanut butter or jelly for the pantry and put it in the barrel.

We had a very productive August with getting all of our kids outfitted with filled backpacks to make them more productive at school.

Our fresh garden donations from the Historical Society’s garden and the garden at Muskego El are very much appreciated.  Private gardeners are dropping off zucchini, egg plant, and tons (literally) of tomatoes.  Thanks for all of the fresh produce.

The home heating months are right around the corner so please keep us in mind while doing your grocery shopping.  Think of those who have to choose between heating their house and feeding their family.

As always many thanks to all of you who donate fresh vegetables, non-perishable items, money and your time.  We wouldn’t be able to help so many without you!

Sorry it is so late but August finds us very busy at the food pantry.

We have completed the sign up for backpacks.  We are currently housing 124 backpacks and are expecting to receive the remaining 50 or so by next week.  All of the backpacks should be distributed by Saturday, August 19th.  Final distribution is that day from 9-11 am.  There are some challenges housing these in our new location so if you can come early to get your backpack please do so.

We are getting tons of fresh produce from community gardens through out all of the Muskego area.  Please keep it coming.  Our families love it.

School is back in session early this year so please keep us in mind while shopping and purchase some bag lunch items.

We wouldn’t be able to help so many without the support and commitment of all of our neighbors.

Thanks for your help!

Letter from the Director – July

It’s July 1st and I’m writing.  Sorry about being too busy to get June’s done.

We’re getting acclimated to our new location.  So are our families.  It is very easy in and easy out for our volunteers and our families.

This will be the last summer to get the fresh produce from Muskego Elementary’s garden.  We’re also going to be getting produce from the community garden at Muskego’s Settlement Center.  Please keep us in mind when you start harvesting your produce.  It is wonderful to be able to provide garden fresh produce to our families.

As always, please keep us in mind when you do your grocery shopping.  Our shelves get depleted quickly during the summer months when the kids aren’t at school and are eating their parents out of house and home.

A BIG thanks to everyone in the community who supports us through food donations, monetary donations, or volunteering.  We couldn’t stay open without you.

Sorry this is so late but May already has been a very busy month.  We moved on May 6th.  Our new address is S81 W19150 Apollo Drive.  We are 1/2 block westward down the street on the left side of Apollo.  We have a small sign out front and we are waiting to get our big sign installed on our building.

Stamp out Hunger is this Saturday on May 13th.  Any one wishing to help date check, sort, and take over to the new location just give us a call at 262 679-6448 or email us at muskegofoodpantry@hotmail.com.  We’d love to have the help.  We are sorting at our old location and then transporting to the new location.

I’d like to thank everyone who helped with the move.  It was hard work but it is almost done.

Please keep us in mind when you do your grocery shopping.  Drop a few things in our barrels at Pick n Save, Piggly Wiggly and Walmart.  Every little bit helps.

Many thanks to our community who continues to support us.

Happy April Fool’s Day.  I think this is a first for me to have my page done on the 1st!  Nice and quite this morning at the pantry at this time of day.  We’ll be opening shortly and a very busy 2 hours follows.

We are still using the canned good that the Boy Scouts donated 2 weeks ago at “Scouting for Food.”  We appreciate all the hard work that the boys put in and the commitment of our community.

Easter is right around the corner and we are getting ready to provide hams to our families.  Easter Baskets made by Bethel Lutheran Church and Jessica at Thirty-One Gifts will be provided to our kids 10 and under.

We’ve had some nice food drives from the scouts, Nabco, St. Joseph’s Catholic school in Big Bend, Tori at Muskego High.  Thanks for supporting us.

As always many thanks to the schools, churches, businesses, and people of Muskego for supporting your local food pantry.  We would not be able to keep our doors open without your help and commitment.

Please keep us in mind when you do your grocery shopping and drop something extra in the barrels at Piggly Wiggly, Pick n Save and Walmart.

Letter from the Director – March

March certainly came in like a lion.  We are busy at the pantry getting ready for “Scouting for Food” which takes place Saturday,
March 18th.  Put a bag of non-perishable items out for the scouts in your area to pick up.  This is the second biggest food drive of the year.  It keeps our shelves stocked until “Stamp out Hunger” in May.  Cousin’s Subs is also having a fundraiser for the food pantry.  In the month of March if  you bring in 3 non-perishable items you can purchase a sub and get a 2nd for half price.  It is a great way to support the food pantry.

Muskego Corvette Club made a very nice donation to the pantry.  As always many thanks to the community, churches, and businesses who support our efforts.  Please remember to purchase a little something extra and drop it in the barrels when you do your grocery shopping.

Thanks for your support.

Letter from the Director – February

The day dawns very cold and crisp.  It is the first Saturday of February and we are very busy at the pantry.

Our numbers are rising on a Saturday because we now close at 5:00 pm on Thursdays.  We made the change just last Thursday but have been thinking about it for awhile.  Our eight to ten volunteers sat here between 5 and 6 sometimes helping no one between those hours, so we decided to close at five.  We’ll see how it goes for the next couple of months.

These are the dark days of winter.  Donations are down because everyone gave over the holidays.

Please keep us in mind when you do your grocery shopping and help fill the barrels at Pick-n-Save, Piggly Wiggly, and Walmart.  Have friends bring non-perishable items to your Super Bowl party.

Our big needs are cereal, pasta sauce, and canned meats.

As always thanks for the generosity of the area businesses, churches, and neighbors.  We wouldn’t be able to stay open without you.

Letter from the Director-January, 2017

Happy New Year!  I can’t believe it is 2017.  Another holiday season in the books.  We provided a nice Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 125 families in Muskego and the outlying areas.  Many thanks to everyone who helped make this a good Christmas for all of our families from St. Paul’s, St. Leonard’s, and the Lion’s Club.  All of your generosity is appreciated.

We thank everyone who donated to Food for Families during the season.  Over 5300 pounds were donated at both Piggly Wiggly and Pick n Save.  Thank you to everyone who had their holiday food drives.  You have kept our shelves full during our busy holiday season.  The Muskego High School Student Council again donated over 10 grocery carts full of food.

We are now getting in to our lean times.  Holiday’s are over and we are not thought of as much.  Please remember to purchase a little more when you do your grocery shopping and drop it in the barrel at your store.  Think of doing a food drive for your Packer/Super Bowl Party.  Bethel Lutheran Church is again having a “Souper Bowl” food drive with donations of cans of soup.

Thanks again, Muskego for your generosity.

Thought I would never get this up and running.  Busy, busy times at the food pantry.  Thanksgiving is in full swing with over 130 families signed up for Thanksgiving dinner.  Twenty five of those families will be provided for by Lions Club, 10 provided by Discovery Days day care, and another 10 provided by St. Leonard’s Catholic Church.  The remaining are receiving from the pantry with turkeys purchased from Feeding America and Walmart.  We just had tons of fresh acorn and spaghetti squash donated from Lange Farms.

We have already started signing up kids for presents for our kids and family Christmas party held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  In addition to holding the party there, their congregation purchases gifts for these kids.

Keep us in mind when grocery shopping or when one of your small groups wants to do something nice for others at the holidays.

Again we wouldn’t be able to help so many without the support of our neighbors, churches, and community partners.  Muskego truly is very generous.

Happy Thanksgiving!
